Hi Guys,
I would just like to let you know that Gumtree doesn't have a Gumtree lottery draw. We won't contact you saying that you have won money.
If you receive an email like this, it is a scam and please do not follow any instructions.
If you receive this email, please report it to us straight away via the link below:

Hi Guys,
we are still receiving reports from Gumtree users that they have been contacted by people posing to be from the Gumtree Lottery Board. They are also including screen shots of fake security passes/identity cards claiming to be Gumtree staff!
Attached with the email communication are documents which look pretty legitimate, such as;
1 - Security pass/staff identity card
2 - A blank international Telegraphic transfer application form
3 - U.S. Court of Federal Claims form
4 - Insurance broker receipt
Again Gumtree doesn't have a Gumtree lottery draw. We won't contact you saying that you have won money.

There should be a Warning on the entry page... that leads users to your article.
Here is another one you might like to alert your users to.
Guy phones about stuff you are selling. You haggle and haw. Then he says he will EFT the money.
Shortly - you get a message from a verrrry long Bulk SMS sender.
It claims to be from YOUR bank letting you know the money has been deposited.
Well I have been checking my account every 30 minutes for the last 5 hours.... No Money
Now a naive person might believe the SMS and not go check on line.
I on the other hand, am a complete ----.
And I only believe what I can see - and even then I only believe half of it.
So for the naive seller - a warning. Check On Line and dont belive "Bank" SMS's

Hi
Please note the following: Adverts advertising for Jobs as chefs and waitrons by Chef on Call (associates), pastor Ramesh Singh, Ramesh Singh, Operations Director S. A is a huge scam. Ramesh Singh is a comitted criminal and was released on parole in Oct last year from the Leeukop Prison. His crime ranges from assault, cheque foggery, fraud, theft. He is also an imposter. He tells people that he is a priest (in Natal) and now a pastor. He conducts rituals, ceremonies and takes money from clients. He has no qualifications with any higher institutions but claims to have. He has 8 jobs for waitrons, chefs, kiddies parties, etc on gumtree. Claims to have branches in Durban, tswhane (pretoria),Johannesburg. Uses different cell numbers and claim to have fictious business partners (name changes all the time). Last year he was also reported to facebook - changed his age and was luring young girls. He gives quotations and thereafter request 50% deposits from unsuspecting clients.
He is well dressed and well spoken - very friendly very convincing..
It has been reported to gumtree but his adverts are still live-please beaware. |

This is a reply from the Gumtree moderators which appears higher up on this page:
