|
|
| My late stepfather would make us all put those small pieces of soap into a box. As soon as it was full he would "recycle" it and form it into normal sized cakes of soap. I hate waste and have tried to do this myself without success. I could kick myself for not taking much notice when he did this. Does anyone out there know how? |

H-BOMB I know its a long time ago but her's what I do...
I put all the scraps into pot, cover 3/4's with water, melt on stove. I now add 1 bar of grated glycerine soap and melt again, stir from time to time. Pour into mould and voila! |

| I simply "glue" the old bit onto the new bar by dabbing a few drops of water on the new bar , wait until soft, mash the old bit firmly in and wait 'till dry again (usually overnight) |

| I collect the little pieces and put them in a little bag with draw strings at the top that I bought at the local Pick 'n Pay. I can't remember the kind of material - I would know it if I heard it - I think it has 3 or 4 syllables and is very commonly known, but it is very thin and fairly transparent. Then I pull the drawstrings at the top and use it as I would use a cake of soap. |

Also a great idea!
However, you might then as well use those bags you buy onions in (the nets, I'm talking about), or use those nets they sell oranges in.
They are nicely rough to exfoliate your skin whilst soaping up! |

| Thanks guys. Very good ideas. Was trying the melting and moulding route and making a total mess. The bag is much better. |

All of you should have sent me your addresses before Christmas for a free bar of soap..... R 8.00.....?
I am sure the electricity you use to cook or melt the old soap will be more that....? |

Too true Brad - eventually gave up but do like the idea of a muslin bag with all the little pieces in it. |

| Hi, I know it this was last discussed a long time ago, but for anyone new looking at these ideas, I would just like to add that my mom taught me to put the old pieces in a stocking and to tie the stocking (or cut off leg of pantihose) to the outside tap. This way, men at work in the garden and garage can have soap to wash their hands etc, without it falling in the sand or on the grass. Tried it in my complex and it got stolen, at least someone got to use it. This way you get to use the nice new soap in the bathroom and the old ones don't go wasted. |
