Here's a contentious one: I am a single mom and have particularily noticed the difference in children that have a Dad in the home and those that don't. Please know that I am a totally non-judgemental person and believe strongly that each situation is completely different and each child unique.

- What I see with my own child of 5,half is that he is very confident, stands up for himself, is largely positive and knows what he wants. He is definitely going to be a leader and already is. As he has had my fully focused attention his whole life, he is quite advanced intellectually and an absolute delight, including demonstratively very affectionate and loving. He is however emotionally not as independant as his buddies I believe, and does not respond to instruction as well as his buddies who have Dads at home. I am a strict Mom, but very loving, and although he does everything on his own: baths, dries, teeth, dresses etc..., He sleeps in his own bed but still next to mine in my room (Father who visits on a Sunday believes this is very wrong) He is also still in Pull-ups at night.
I have never pushed him into doing things until he is ready and as a result have NEVER (and I mean it) had "accidents".

- My question is: Why is it that in some cultures, him sleeping in my room still is frowned upon and in some this happens very naturally. I can guarentee you he won't still be there at age 18 Wink ?? - I work all day and this is our special time at night to bond, so what's wrong with it if at all?
- I believe he will come off the "Pull-ups" on his own when he's ready - thoughts?
- He only turns 6 in December but has to start school next year (Grade 1) - I want to keep him back - thoughts?
