Hi Admin

Wonder if you could create a sticky for posting possible scammers in so other users can be aware of these listings.

It has been my experience with Gumtree that there are a number of chancers if we have a sticky "Reporting dodgy activities etc" we can give the users a added chance of not losing their money and Gumtree can investigate these users. Idea Question

I have created a sticky with tips on staying safe and a place for everyone to share their advice and experiences.

However please report any suspicious ads directly to us using the report links in the ads themselves so that we can take quick action.

We will take an urgent look at the personals section gdiza to see what we can do. If you come across any particular ads that shouldn't be there please let us know using the report links.

We have a few changes coming soon to reduce even further any dubious people from using Gumtree.

On the old site, the prank / scam ads were obvious, all the photos were the same type size with a white border around it, you e-mail them (ads look okay) then they tell you to goto a web site which you have to pay to msg them, some I'm sure are desperate enough to do what they want, others ignore it (such as myself)

Can't you guys have like a 'button' on the ads which you can click on 'report as spam' and set it up as a vote option.

so if I click it, its +1, if another guy clicks it, its +2 etc etc etc, after say maybe 5 votes, ad is deleted or something along those lines.

Hi Admin

The new look is great, my only gripe is that now I have to plow through all the ads which are irrelevant to me, rather than being able to set my search perameters as in the old look.

Would it not be possible to bring back the search perameter option?

Otherwise keep up the good work.

Thanks

i have to agree, everthings all muddled up now and one spends hours trying to get to what you are looking for. the SEARCH function isn't all that accurate either.

And why do jobs on offer have to be muddled up with jobs being looked for?

Sometimes i have to click thru' 3 pages of the exact same ad - the only difference in ea being available in different areas. for instance House or Pet sitters...................drives me nuts!!! and sends my data card bill up the spout

I far preffered the old look - more friendly, and also more user friendly. It is now just another impersonal proffessional site

Twiggy2000

Firstly, is it not possible for you to check the postings of ads by the same user to see that it is identical content and block the same ad from being posted multiple times?

Secondly regarding this Jones character, surely you can delete his account and prevent the same name, number and email from being used by future users wanting to register?

what if as soon as someone recognises a dodgy ad, you post a new ad quite close to it with *BEWARE* and the same title as the dodgy ad, these scammers will eventually get the message and move elsewere. If alot of people start doing this it may work.

the scam ads are now really over the top (up to 10/page), and for new users who don't recognise them its quite easy for them to get taken by these lazy fools.

There is a syndicate running from Delarey Str Bellevue East Jhb. I received 8 responses for something and all of them were from these guys.
They go as far as paying and sending payment receipts but there is no real money being transfered, either fake cheques or fake accounts.
BEWARE.
Can Gumtree not place some kind of "Latest Scammers" section so everyone can know about this?

Guys, the easiest way to avoid being scammed is to insist upon cash when contacted. I virtually guarantee you that the phone will be slammed down in your ear and you will not hear from the idiots again!

It makes me sick that clowns like these can waste their energy and ours coming up with tricks like these to defraud innocent people. Can't they put that "creativity" (if you can call it that) to better use to come up with a legitimate business venture?
