| straw bale houses are great. I studied up on them quite extensively. Some magnificent stuff on the net. an aside here - I was discussing this on site one day with some Engineers and Quantity surveyors and it came out that some fundi here in SA did the whole number using treated mielie stalks waste etc. built a really sturdy house..........and the next year had mielies growing out his walls..........one way to cut the food budget. |

This is my first time looking at the disussions on Gum tree, and i am amazed at the ignorance of some taking part, but offering nothing of use to a topic.
Don't worry there are lots of us who know what a straw bale house is, and are totally in support and awe of those pushing the boundaries and making things happen to improve our lives and that of our children, by living in harmony with nature.
Thank you for your imput |

As you can see by most peoples comments, people in South Africa know absolutely nothing about straw bale homes... this is exactly why you cant get bank funding to build one because in general people know nothing about them and still do not understand the concept.
They are completely safe and sturdy and are so well insulated because of there lovely think walls. I have seen pictures of straw bale homes in the UK that are more than 100 years old and are still going strong...
Hope you find a way of getting funding... if you do let me know, would love to do the same. |
