The guys are using fake Nedbank Confirmations and then want to take delivery of goods immediately.
These are the cell numbers i have for two of them 079 079 1614 and 079 730 4550. I had two of these already, they usually go for the newer ads from what i gather.[/b]

Hello Charmaine,

I’m very sorry to hear about your experience. As you know we are in a constant battle to out these scammers and with thousands of ads posted on the site everyday it makes it very hard to highlight these people without the help of the community.

Please submit a ticket using http://info.gumtree.co.za/help/index.php?a=add and provide all relevant information to the support team so they can look into this matter further.

Gumtree works closely with law enforcement agencies to provide all the information needed to reports raised, however we would rather like our community to follow these 3 safety tips while interacting on Gumtree so the pain of being conned by a scammer can be avoided all together;

1. Always meet in-person - take someone with you and meet in a public place
2. Never send or wire money (especially Western Union or Moneygram) to someone you do not know or trust
3. Use common sense. If something sounds too good to be true – it probably is

If ever in doubt about an ad or a reply received to your posted ad please contact our customer support team and they will be happy to help you out.

For further examples on common scams please refer to our "stay safe" section in our forums.

Hope your future experiences on Gumtree are much more pleasant.

Blake1, The Gumtree Team

Thank you for this post - I was doing a search on cell numbers - just received a call this morning on 3 new items I posted last night from the same people.

Excellent - If we keep on posting all their details and do searches before we deal with would be buyers, we will be able to avoid some of these criminals.
Hopefully RICA will help a little in tracing them.

This oak also tried to scam me.
Replied via email within 3 min of placing the add. Was suspicious when he did not even try to negotiate. Asked if I can deliver next day. He will transfer the money to my account. This guy seemed to trustworthy. Did not even want to have a look.
He goes by the name Leigh and email address leigheaton61@yahoo.com.

Hi there all,

We have had a similar experience, the goods are not even viewed then they want to make the payment, a cheque from Mabirimsa Bus Service was paid in, R 4000 our asking price was R 3000, so we knew what was going to happen. The cheque was returned, unpaid cheque number 6120, he goes by the name Andrew Kalala e mail is andrew_kalala@yahoo.com and his cell is 079 739 1595. He made this deposit at Nedbank Sunninghill.

Hi everyone, thanks for posting about the scams, I was about to hand my lounge set over to these guys, luckily just before they came I went on the internet and saw this blog. He also contacted me under "Leigh Eaton" , they are still using the same cell numbers. They also send my a fake proof of payment from Nedbank.

The more info that gets posted about these scum, the better the chance of picking it up before the damage is done.

The courier guy was just here to pick up my lounge set and I told him the story, he haven't been paid either by the scam artists, they said they will pay him when he delivers. The address they gave him was:

Perpal Centre, Corner Louis Botha and Joe Slovo JHB !!

Hey guys

Thanks so much for all of you who reported the above scamster (I gather he goes by other aliases as well). I had the exact response as Charmaine - he sent payment confirmation immediately (fake Nedbank business current account with reference 20110209/NEDBANK/003151478).

He also wanted me to deliver immediately, but I insisted that I would only deliver once my bank confirmed that the money has cleared in my account.

I'm going to lay a charge with the police today - if you've been scammed too please do the same - hopefully the cops can RICA him and catch him that way. The number I have is 079 730 4550.

And remember: it's not a sale until the money has cleared in your bank account.

Experienced this guy with exact same MO as described above, this week.
Responded immediately. Bought without even seeing the item. Insists on delivery. Rude ----.
Fake Nedbank payment sms.
I have numbers and address (which may or may not be for real)
Who can I supply to?
