Hi all,

This sounds just like someone I am dealing with. Didn't seem too concerned about viewing photo's etc etc. About an hour after my add went up I got a response. I hadn't even had time to upload photos yet. Gave an address at Houghton Mansions as well and when I Googled the address for the directions this Gumtree Scam site came up. Thank you for this as you may have just saved me a lot of trouble. Using the name Kelly Hyper. Email is Hyperkelly82@yahoo.com. Cell is 083 684 0273

I put an ad up in December for a watch selling for R6000. After a month of no replies, I took the price down to R5500. On the 13th of February I received a phone call from a guy named 'Frank'. He was overly enthusiastic and keen to buy my watch for his 'boyfriend' for Valentine's Day. I immediately fell for this scam, and after some communication over SMS, he asked for my banking details and said that he would do an EFT.

The money did not reflect for a day, and on the 14th Feb it showed up in my current balance but NOT in my available balance. I went ahead and met his 'driver' at a McDonalds at the N1 city on the way to Cape Town. Never met Frank so do not know what he looks like.

After two days, my account said I had overdrawn by R5500 and after querying this with the bank, they informed me that the CHEQUE he had put in was withdrawn and was probably a fraud/stolen cheque. He put an ABSA cheque into my account, and I received an SMS from FNB saying that F.Milton had put R5500 into my account. The SMS number of the bank notification was +278200703320184.

So this criminal has my watch I have not seen a cent of my money. I opened a case with the Stellenbosch police as well as the Goodwood police where the incident happened. They do not seem to be taking any action.

I wish for justice to be served to this fraudster, and fear that he will continue to scam others.
His cell numbers are:
Frank Milton - 078 731 3327
His driver (Claude) - 071 77 82 999
The number he put on the cheque - 078 185 6765

The guy adhered to all the usual signs of a scammer, but I did not know any better. Was very eager to get the item, not interested in its appearance, willing to pay immediately etc.

Let's catch these useless individuals.

Megan

Hi guys,

I've just been in contact with another fellow, following exactly the same MO as described in all the other posts. Haven't lost anything (luckily I came upon this thread before driving off to deliver the item I'm selling).

Please note: it is not *certain* that this is a scammer, but I want to post names and numbers here in case other people get contacted by the same person (in which case it'll become clear that this is a scam):

Name: Bright Stevens (brightstevens02@gmail.com) 0837169745
friend who's supposed to pick up the item:
"Belinda", 0735796637

Have told them I'll wait for the money to clear (but am well aware of fake cheques, so will scrutinize any "payment" with my bank).

He is now going by the name Jamal Mckenzie .
wanted to buy my camera and my ipod. He "did the eft" and needed the goods overnight couriered urgently for his son and daughter. Didint negotiate and offered to pay the courier fee in the eft. It had to be sent from postnet by 3pm. As his fake Nedbank confirmation email and sms came through late we said we'd send it the next morning. The email he sent from his personal address (jamalm@webmail.co.za) was dodgy so i went into nedbank to have it verified. The account number ws blocked out by stars and there was no reference number. When we asked for his account number he quickly called back and diverted saying hed send his ID scan. This was the icing on the cake , it claims hes about 50 years old but the photo is a young male. the photo is edited if you look closely as is the information if you look carefully. Googled the ID number it led me back to gumtree forum of a scam>(thank you guys) checked the ID number on the department website it does not exist.
His fake ID number is 6206133597084
His fake number is 0815733945
His fake son/accomplice Sanele Given Madlopha

Hope this helpsthe next victim

Hi all,

Ive also almost been scammed by Bright Stevens brightstevens02@gmail.com and cell of 0837169745 . Was selling a R16,000 pc, he phoned and said he wants it without even wanting to look at it and that he would eft me the money from nedbank. Well got sms confirmation from an ABSA bank sms saying that the transaction has occurred. Then I decided to google his email and came upon this forum discussion. He was sending a "guy" to come and pick up the pc. I phoned him back and asked him to explain why there are posts about him being a scammer, and that I was going to wait till the funds were actually in my account, he put the phone down on me so clearly he is. Dont do business with this guy

Scammers will always catch someone who will fall for their story Crying or Very sad but hopefully, with all these warnings, they will catch fewer and fewer people. Lets all try to make it as difficult as possible for them by being careful and not parting with anything until the money is safely in the bank. Honest buyers will understand your caution.

Hi!

I was almost scammed by this very guy last night: he even sent a payment confirmation to my cell phone with a reference from the bank, he said it was the same bank account as me. He sent someone else to collect it and thankfully the other guy got very lost. So I never handed over my ipod touch to him! His email is hyperkelly82@yahoo.com and his cell is 083 684 0273 - stay away from him!!!!

I hope they get caught and castrated.

Tries to get you to deliver in Houghton somewhere
C'mon lets be smart, Stick to the good old cash in hand and heres your goods system. We are becoming complacent and desperate. I am one of them but we need to keep smart other wise we will loose more than what we have already.

I just posted an ad for our projector, we posted it for slightly more than we need so that when a potential buyer contacts us, we can still negotiate on price, literally not even 3 minutes after i posted the ad i got a reply from 0781010207 wanting to collect via courier in the morning, i asked if he did not want to view it first , he said no he will def. take it, i said ok for the collection, but how will he pay and he said via eft in the morning before collection, my gut told me to google his number as on my ad it does not show that anyone viewed my ad,,,and as i suspected i googled his number and stumbled accross this discussion board ! so thanx for the heads up!!
