Hi Nelis, Seemswe have both been the brunt of this bastards tricks, unfortunately this is not his real name, this is what i have managed to come up with, I also have friends at vodacom on the case with me as well as private detectives. Here is a copy of a post i recently made, any further info any one else has on this matter should post their information, as information is key!! we need to know everything we can to catch these criminals

Here is further information that I have been able to find out with regards to this case, this guy obviously knows what he is doing and has scammed many people out of their money and goods. He uses various names, cell phone numbers and email addresses, I have managed to gather these contact details in hope that through your systems and RICA you will be able to catch this ----.

As you know we are in a constant battle to out these scammers and with thousands of ads posted on the site everyday it makes it very hard to highlight these people without the help of the community.

Please submit a ticket using http://info.gumtree.co.za/help/index.php?a=add and provide all relevant information to the support team so they can look into this matter further.

Gumtree works closely with law enforcement agencies to provide all the information needed to reports raised, however we would rather like our community to follow these 3 safety tips while interacting on Gumtree so the pain of being conned by a scammer can be avoided all together;

1. Always meet in-person - take someone with you and meet in a public place
2. Never send or wire money (especially Western Union or Moneygram) to someone you do not know or trust
3. Use common sense. If something sounds too good to be true – it probably is

If ever in doubt about an ad or a reply received to your posted ad please contact our customer support team and they will be happy to help you out.

For further examples on common scams please refer to our "stay safe" section in our forums.

Hope your future experiences on Gumtree are much more pleasant.

It is common for them to carry on "doing transactions" even after they know that you have caught them out-i know this as that is how clever my guy was to carry on wheeling and dealing until he finally got properly busted..

I recieved a reply to my computer for sale add on Gumtree from both Andrew Kalala and Phillip Cooper. Andrew provided me with an address to deliver to: 134 houghton mansion cnr bond an louis botha ave upper houghton jhb and the cell number: 0797391595
Hope this helps. So sick of these scammers. I had a cell phone stolen this way last year. Guy did an "EFT" got an sms saying the money was put in and never actually got the money. It's dispicable.

This same Andrew Kalala contacted me on the 11th of Feb. He paid R12,000 too much into the bank account and obviously wanted the money paid back into his account.

He wanted the proof of payment emailed to andrew_kalala@yahoo.com. His bank details:

Nedbank
Account number: 1004765894

and he wanted the goods couriered to 134 Houghton Mansion cnr Bond & Louis Botha ave upper Houghton Jhb, 2198.

He paid by bank deposit with a cheque which will probably bounce this week still.

NB: It takes 7 days for a cheque to clear!

Hi, my encounter with a fraudster last week was similar to what people have described. Contacted me immediately after add went up and wanted item sight unseen. (which is odd, because it is a decor item and not everyone's immediately liking).
Wanted fast delivery.
Got fake Nedbank payment notice (with poor wording)
No monies cleared.
When I eventually wanted to arrange delivery at his address, he stopped phoning. (Dont you hate it when people think you're stupid?!)
Went by the name Wayne Mackenzie, cell no 079579891. Address he gave was 77 Broadway Street, Bez valley. Rude, gruff male voice.
It is great this forum assist people when they have concerns - but maybe a more visible warning on sales pages is needed.

I am a private investigator that deals with this sort of thing often. People must remember that in 99% of the cases, these guys slip up and it is possible to catch them. It is not always easy or cheap and therefore victims often just write-off their loss. We have developed ways to catch them. The SAPS does not always keep up with the private sector in this regard.

Hi, i have just been conned by this guy, called himself Andrew, cell number 0797391595. My washing machine and fridge were delivered to his pawn shop on the corner of Raymond and Hunter in Bellevue. I let the driver take the stuff on the strength of a Nedbank payment confirmation. I phoned the driver today, don't know his name, but his number is 0782124822 who said he'd delivered stuff there before but has stopped now because he is suspicious. I have just opened a case with the Norwood police.

He wants to buy a laptop from me, Andrew... I got to this posts by google'ing his number (i hate scams) and thought of letting you guys know.

Sure RICA needs to do something about this as well as the SAPS... Isn't that the reason why all South-Africans needed to RICA there sim cards...?

People like this guy most definitely need to get his punishment as we as South Africans work extremely hard to have what we have and cannot afford someone else taking away what we worked for.

My personal opinion, we should gather together, make an arrangement/meeting with him (if he wants) or scam him back, selling an extremely expensive laptop and then, when we get him..., I will leave that to your own imagination...
