Gone are the days when caring for the environment was a nice-to-do past-time limited only to those who took the time to care and keep themselves informed. I believe it is every earthling's social responsibility to do her/his bit to help conserve what's left of our natural resources and to support living for sustainability. Nature is so much more than our natural environment...

Very Happy I Agree with you.Everyone should start thinking along these lines on how to preserve our environment. Pity we live in a society that most people just dont care. But times are changing where we are forced to consider alternates for electricity, petrol ect...I for one am Laughing

Hey Great, we are promoting veggie growing with all our neighbours through our security forum here in Jhb New South so we can support each other with seeds, seedlings, oganic vegetables I am supplying fully organic compost and designing modular free standing kitchen gardens
each one preplanted with herbs and veggies of choice, researching viability of offering a fortnightly veggie garden service, where supplied units will be maintained at a monthly fee so owner only has to pick what is ready fresh each evening, spinach leaves, lettuce leaves, rocket,
tomatoes, basil, tarrogan, mint, oregano, bush beans, celery, green pepper, chillies, to name a few options - smaller plants only.

CAN SOME ONE GIVE ME THE NAME OF POTATOE HYBRID THAT GROWS IN TYRES & STACKING BINS. . P L E A S E

WHERE IN JHB IS THERE THE ORGANIC VEGGIE BOX SYSTEM
AN ORGANIC MARKET GARDEN THAT ONE PAYS A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION TO AND RECEIVES A BOX EACH MONTH OF VEGGIES IN SEASON.

PLS TELL ME WHERE TO GET FREE RANGE HUMANELY RAISED & HOME SLAUGHTERED BEEF PORK LAMB & CHICKENS
Go check MEATRIX on the web. for just how inhuman us homosaps have sunk.and check other sites for how TOXIC all the chemicals are that are being pumped into our fellow factory farrmed or finished mammals, they
are our kin, feel, breathe, eat and reproduce just like us, Hey are you happy that we are at the TOP of the food chain Smile ???

Im new to this - hope it works
Pls respond to ecoheights@telkomsa.net

Laughing For your tyres or bins, try sweet potatoes!
I planted one that started sprouting in my garden bout a year ago, It has now covered an area of about 3m x 3m. When I dig them up they are all the size of bricks, they are taking over my lawn now, I can harvest them all thru the year, but then I live in Durban with only one season. Crying or Very sad

Thanks - Yes I have a randum sweet potato which has grown itself from my compost and is flourishing, thanks for the idea I will start building it upwards if you say that will throw sides tubers.

unfortunately I have severe space constraints having built a community of 8 units with 15 bedrooms on 1300 sq mt with 12 off street parking, big pool, four lapas, 2 workshop/store rooms, three staff rooms with kitchen and ablutions, big trampoline . chicken run, wormeries, and 5 garden areas - My veggies grow mixed in all the flower beds - but Potatos are not the best looking companion plants to acccommodate, hence I wanted to grow them vertically - I am envisaging your 3 sq.mt of tyres Surprised and dont think my residents would like me to put them on a roof. !!! which anyway are pretty covered with solar panels.
I am also interested to find fruits other than grenadillas that will grow on walls, and I need stuff that will susrvive mostly shade.
I do successfully grow pumpkins on a north facing wal using orange bags. have a big apricot tree which has off-spring which I am trying to train flat - not too successfully.
see www.ecoheightslodge.com - for some general pics.
All INSPIRATION IDEAS - REALLY WELCOME
Thanks

Laughing If space is a constraint, try this one. I did, very successfully.
Start collecting 2 lt plastic cooldrink bottles.Sart your seedlings normally.
Cut the bottom off the bottle (on the seam) Poke 2 holes bout an inch down from the cut. Tie a long length of nylon string into the holes. Fill with compost and plant your seedlings in the hanging pot.Lettuce are best grown from the top and tomotoes grow better and stronger if planted upside down ie: from the neck of the bottle.
You can hang these one above the other so no water is wasted, The water from the top bottle goes thru and waters the bottom one.
I have 36 in all and grow lettuce, tomotoes, beans, carrots and spring onions. It takes up no space at all and best of all, pest and snails cant get to them.
