Hi everyone,

I just wanted to make sure you all know that Gumtree is listening to the issues you are raising. We read all the forum posts and all the emails and are doing our best to address the issues.

Two examples:
1) You wanted locations visible in ad titles --> We have brought them back in Cape Town. Johannesburg will be up later today and I'll get to work on Durban.

2) Some of you asked for a better separation of offering and wanted ads --> We will be bringing back wanted categories soon (this week hopefully).

I know there are several other issues and believe me we are talking about them and working hard to see how we can address them.

Thanks for your patience.

Bye for now,
Gumtree John

Hoo'rah John!

Thanks!

Patience is a virtue and virtue is a gift and us Capies have alot of patience.

You do realise, in Cape Town, the joke here is "You know why they call it the mother city right? - Because it takes 9 months for anything to get done!" Very Happy

Thanks John, keep it up!

I received an e-mail from Gumtree as follows:

Your Gumtree Ad has been removed in accordance with our policies.

Ad deleted by userID = 15917269, reason=OTHER=99

For information on our policies, you can visit: http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/p-Policies Any future ads that are not in compliance with our policies will also be removed. We sincerely value you as a member of our trading community and look forward to a continued successful relationship. To ensure this relationship, we must respectfully ask that you abide by our Policies in the future. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards,Customer Support

I checked the policies and am unable to figure out what policy I could have contravened. Does anybody know what reason=OTHER=99 means?

I have written twice to Gumtree and no response. Sad

Hi freeluv,

Gumtree values your feedback - thank you for raising them.

Are you still having trouble posting pictures?
I will look into the renewed ad listing issue for you.

Thanks for your patience,

Hi freeluv,

When an ad is reposted, the ad goes to the top of the category page. If that is not working for you, please send us the ad ID and we can look into it.

Hope that helps,

There's one simple solution you haven't addressed.

Guys keep on posting their adverts on the wrong category. Go to "Girls seeking guys" and you'll see what I mean. We endlessly preach that they shouldn't be doing that and use their heads.

My suggestions is as follows: when it comes to "Friends/Dating" category (posting an ad) why don't you just add a simple compulsory field that would allow a person to select for example one of the following:
- I am man looking for a woman
- I am a woman looking for a man
- I am a girl looking for a girl(s)
- etc.

On the background you can tie this to your normal structure. This doesn't require any difficult scripts. I can do it myself for you for free if you can allow me to be your administrator or webmaster. It is very simple.

Remember English is not first language to most South Africans.
