Hi, I am a white female, in my 30's, and will be travelling from Cape Town to P.E. with my 6 yr old son, and returning to Cape Town with both my 6 yr and 13 yr old son. I have placed a few ads offering a lift to either P.E. or Cape Town. To help out with the petrol costs. But is it really a good idea???? I was taught not to ride with strangers, and I'm teaching my children not to ride or trust strangers. I'm worried that it might not be safe, you never know who the person "really' is.
Am I just being paranoid or ??????? should I listen to my gut?????

There are a lot of weirdos out there. When in doubt, listen to your gut.

What you do it this. Before you let anyone get into your car, they must supply you with an ID number, ie at least a week before departure, prefably a copy of their ID book, and when you meet to pick them up, they must show you their ID book, if the numbers tally and the photo is the same, then give them a lift, if not, DON'T let them in the car. If they are security conscious they will accept this. Also you will need to supply your ID number. ID numbers are then left with someone so that if anything happens, there will at least be a "lead". Also make it clear that petrol money is paid upfront, and that you don't want to ask for it.
