Does anybody have an affordable remedy for flea problems. Our pets (cats and dogs) are suffering and us humans also get bitten.
We have tried the cheap dips, shampoos and powders you get at supermarkets. Very ineffective.
We have tried the very expensive tablets, sprays and liquid applicaters that you apply on their backs, that you get at vet shops. They work for about 3 weeks and then you have to go and buy more.!! Within a few months you have spend enough money to buy a house!! Thus this is not cost effective at all.

Hi there
if ur home is carpetted u can apply salt overnight to entire area thats carpetted and dont walk on it and next morning u vaccum it all up and that will kill all flea eggs. As for the products to use on pets those treatments are always a monthly procedure.
Regards

I was infested with flees in my workshop a year ago. I put 20 plates of soapy water on the floor. The flees all jumped in. Everyday I changed the water. Did that for a week and to date have never had a problem again. Touch wood.
My Ridgeback gets defleaed everyday with a flea comb, Much cheaper than chemicals. To make a clean start with your dog or cat you can give them a Capstar tablet, this kills all the flees one shot but only lasts 24 hours and costs about R20 |

Hi. we had a similar problem many years ago. we had the entire property sprayed by proefssionals but still suffered. Finally we bought something from the gardeing section of Pick & Pay hyper. It was for fleas in a granule form which we had to sprinkle everywhere, hose lightly and leave. if i recall correctly we also sprinkled the granules onto our carpets and later vacummed away. We could finally smile thereafter. Good luck. |

The only thing that works is Flego, its a big yellow bottle you buy in most vetshops for about R135. You spray it everywhere, on your carpets, skirtings of rooms, on your bed, where the animals sleep etc.
You are killing the fleas on the animals with Frontline etc, but then just new ones from the already infested environment jumps on again. Flego you only need to use every 6 months. I have 3 bedroom house and I do the whole house twice with one bottle, so very cost effective.
Just read the instructions on the bottle properly, to use it correctly. It's lighter than a fodder, you don't have to leave the house, just close the windows and curtains and doors of each room you do and leave it for a half a hour. I use it every 6 months, and after 6 months I find a flea in the house, and then I know it's time again. It kills the fleas, the larvae (which hides in dark places) and also the eggs.
Happy flea hunting! |
